Hi everyone,

Would like to get feedback from experienced raid users on what application is best for testing all levels of raid performance? I'd like to get a benchmarking program specifically for doing this. I did take a look at IOmeter but wondering if anyone could suggest something else?

Thanks for reading

IOmeter is good, but what's the purpose of running a benchmark? You can certainly find valuable info if you check benchmark results for very large databases or whatever type of application you'll be running. They usually identify the hardware that was used, the RAID type, e.g., 5, 6, 10, 50, etc. Do you plan on benchmarking all possible RAID types?

HDTune is probably the most used test suite on review sites, so makes comparisons easily available.

IOmeter is the best RAID benchmarking program, HDTach and HDTune only run a QD=1 across a disk or array.

If you want to see how well your RAID really performs then set the QD to 256 with a exponential stepping of 4.
