So I thought it was about time to upgrade my ancient AMD X2 4400+ (939), motherboard, and ram...

This is not only mainly for gaming... its pretty much ONLY for gaming!!, I want some opinions. Also, will this overclock well?

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115037

2 x mushkin 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820146725
I want at least 4GB of ram in this new rig.

Should I go with faster ram, and a mobo with 1600 FSB Instead?? I don't have much experience overclocking (especially intel).
Any input would be appreciated.

P5k - e - wifi! = 150$
Q6600 OEM = 200ish
Any ddr2 800!

I know the board reaches a 475 FSB! So thats awesome!
A q6600 g0 will just about all hit 3.6 easily on it. (Its random luck if you go higher, because you'll need the help of fate to get a good VID!)
And any decent ddr2 800 can reach 850ish.

Sooo, thats FSB 400 @ 3.6 Ghz while runnin' your ram synced at 800.

But with any decent ram, and a low VID chip you can always get FSB 425... Whats that, 3825 processor speed, and 850 on your ram.

But if you wanna stand a chance at getting prime stable at 4.0 or higher... maybe the wolfdale is better!

Quad 3.6, or dual 4.0... quad 3.6, or dual 4.0... what a choice!

Alright, so... damn, some of these choices are tough!!

I think this is my final decision is:

ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - $149.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813127030

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz - $199.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115037

mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $74.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820146731
(thx for finding this ram Dunkel)

$149.99 + $199.99 + $74.99 = $424.97

I might buy another mushkin 4GB... to total 8GB. I'm still thinking about it.

Hehe, 8 GB 64 bit and no swap file!

As far as your choice, its all in what you wanna do. I have often wanted to get a fast dual chip just to OC it to 4.5! But thats just 9 Ghz in cycles. My q6700 can get 3.8 at 1.44 volts, 15.2 Ghz worth of clock cycles. Hmmm... math was never my strong point!
