I have a 2.5" HDD. It was taken out of a laptop that had the southbridge cracked. The HDD had XP pro installed with norton antivirus FAT32 partion was used. I removed it and placed in a enclosure but i can't access the drive. It shows in the device manager. How can i access the drive to backup(there was no backups made by the owner of the laptop) before i re-partion the drive?? I've tried to access the drive with XP, Red Hat, Ubuntu, Fedora and Vista. I even tried to boot from the os that was installed on the drive with no success. Any suggestions?
The only thing i can think of is that the hard drive has a password on it that was created by the laptops BIOS. Inwhich case if you cant clear the password on the laptop youll most likely have to take it to a hard drive recovery place that will pull the thing apart.
