I live in France, and alot of people are pissed off by the unavailability of the 8800GTorGTS - doesn't matter which. On the other hand ATI has its HD3800's available and starting to sell more and more.

I know the 8800's are better performance-wise but their unavailability (and definetely higher prices) makes them IMO a choice people won't regret having made.

IS Nvidia losing money at its own fault?

Happy holidays people!

No .... they're still trying to and are for the dumbass fanboys ripping consumers . They should have released the dual cores .... instead just an updated way overpriced g92 with a better cooler than the piece of hot running g92 SH*T they sold last week .

The 8800GT 512's aren't much better, and the 256 model, which was supposed to be an X3850 killer isn't quite what Nvidia hoped. Every time I check Newegg, it's like a seesaw between the two companies in availability.

Personally, I think February's the time to buy, because Nvidia's next GPU will be out and we'll have a clearer idea what's going on with the R700 from AMD.

Since I'm waiting to build a hybrid Crossfire system with a 780G board and a 65 watt Brisbane 2.9 gigahertz, I'll get my X3870 then. I'll get my wife's X3870 as well. My son will get an 8800GT.

I'm sure availability and prices will have stabilized by then.

I'm waiting for the X2 5600 2.9Ghz Brisbane myself.
The 2.7 just came out (6 months late).

I have two Windsors now, an X2 3800+ on an ASUS 690G and an X2 4600+ on an MSI 6100. My son will get the X2 4600+ and an 8800GT and we'll move the 690G as is to an HTPC.

Sadly, the first incarnation of the hybrid Crossfire won't work with the X3870 or X3850. I just found that out this minute from glancing at the Anandtech article:

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3178

Quote :

Unfortunately, the first incarnation of Hybrid Crossfire with the RS780 will only really work with the upcoming Radeon HD 3400 series GPUs. If you stick a Radeon HD 3400 card (the 3450 and 3470 will arrive early next year), both the integrated RV610 graphics and the Radeon HD 3400 will work in tandem during 3D games. Where possible the two will employ a basic AFR CrossFire mode where each GPU is responsible for rendering its own frame. Since the two GPUs should be relatively well matched in terms of performance, load balancing shouldn't be a major problem. AMD told us that it has seen an increase in performance of anywhere from 40 - 70% in games like Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis and Call of Duty 4. We didn't receive any more guidance on performance.

The performance aspect of the technology won't work with any other cards, not to mention that there wouldn't be a performance benefit from running a Radeon HD 3870 and lowly RS780 integrated graphics in CrossFire. Hybrid CrossFire will allow you to have multi-monitor support across your integrated and discrete GPUs however.

So, I guess instead of going hybrid Crossfire for our motherboard upgrades, I'll just get the Crossfire boards. In that case, I should go two X3850's initially and see if 4 will work together down the line. At any rate, the news that hybrid Crossfire really won't help even an X3850 much is disappointing.

I have to admit that I am a bit confused. I have always seen the GT available. BUT NOT THE 3870! "GTS" all day and night. "GT" since the day it was released, every time I check, it's right there to rape me of my $$$. The most avail. card I know of. The 3870 has sold out in the same day it arrives, every time it arrives. Where (besides Dell's site) can I buy a 3870, and not be forced to choose from a Visiontek or a Visiontek? Right now today...

Right now Newegg has a couple of 3850s for $169.99. I know that doesn't help you in France but you have to admit that is SWEET. Heck, the 512MB 3850 is going for $199.99. That's $20 less than the cheapest 256MB 8800GT. I'd say AMD is on to (onto?) something here.
