hi when i plug in my external harddrive my comp freezes up and i cant do anything but as soon as i unplug it everything is fine and idk what is wrong but if i pulg it into my laptop it works fine i think it might be running a little slower but nothing to bad and soo iidk whats going wrong
thanks for any help greatly appretiated

It's probably a Windows problem. Try booting into safe mode and see if it works. If so, go into services and look for a service that might be causing it or possibly a program that is running at startup that might be conflicting. Compare what's loading in safe mode and normal mode.

 

To show services - Click Start -> Run and type services.msc enter/OK.
to show startup - Click Start -> Run and type msconfig enter/OK. Click on the startup tab.

 

I should have added, use Process Monitor in Task Manager to check for running processes.

 

To show process monitor - press ctrl, alt and delete simultaneously. Click on the Processes tab.

 

An alternative and more extensive process monitor is Windows Sysinternals Process Explorer v11.21
