Hello,

I bought a new Asus EN9600GT HTDI last month and today I decided to OC it a bit.

Now the memory on the 9600GT got this serial number:
Samsung K4J52324QE-BJ1A

Asus clocked it to 900MHz, but on the Samsung site, I found a PDF which says it is designed to run at 1000MHz.
Here is a screenshot of it:

Now my question is: How safe is it to set the memory to 1000MHz? I mean, isn't there a reason Asus has downclocked it?

Thanks in advance,

They prolly down clocked it because they have to sell lesser versions of the card to make money!

Think they want you to know that they may use the same chips on their faster cards? Hell no!

Are you using the proper tools to OC it and test?

If you are positive that the chips are the ones you see on that chart, get to OCing! It wont hurt it, and if it does, ATI tools artifact tester will tell ya after a few mins of running!

^Another reason could be that they are not cooled by heatsinks.

IIRC ASUS 9600GTs have that round heatsink+fan and not the 1 slot black shroud full cover cooler. It might be better at cooling the GPU itself but it leaves the memory chips uncovered. If that is the case a GPU memory cooling kit (8 small aluminium blocks with fins) would help keep it cooled.

OC voids your warranty so keep it in safe waters.

Thanks for your replies.

Yes I'm positive the memory is the one that 1000MHz one but unfortunately the memory isn't cooled. Memory cooling kits would be a bit hard, as the GPU fan streches over the memory (Google for Asus 9600GT to see it).

I've read a lot of reviews before buying the card and one of them got the memory to run at 1123MHz, without changes to the cooling system.

I'll see if I can't fabricate something to cool down the memory and start overclocking in small steps while checking the temparature every x minutes.
