My goal is to use my older laptop wirelessly. It does have a USB port. I have a 512k DSL internet connection. Would a wireless router and a wireless USB card in my laptop work? What type of router would I need?

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

The cheapest one you can find while it's all in the experimental stage and the same goes for the dongle. You may find on e-Bay, an older style wireless card called PCMCIA which fits in a slot on one side of the your laptop. It's the sort of thing you might find n a second hand parts shop or a Computer Fair is such things still exist.

There's no reason why it shouldn't work.
