I did it! Woo Hoo. Well, maybe for some it is not too big a deal, but for me it was. After about two total accumulated hours of research about Ram and how to install it, I decided to just go for it. I ordered up the correct Ram for my machine, it arrived today where I work. Yep, I couldn't wait to get home this evening and plug it in. I did run a benchmark before and after using Aida. I highly recommend it as it reports everything under the hood. In real time too. You can get it at the http://www.sourceforge.net website for one. If you want to see the comparison report.file before and after install benchmark, just email me, and I'll send it to you. Yes, I even used the crucial analyzer. That is a really cool website! http://www.crucial.com. Anyway, then I just installed it. It was soooo simple! These are all great questions in this forum about memory by the way. All the posts really helped me out so I would like to thank the contributors. Here is another website of interest on why a PC will only report 3.5 GB of Ram when 4 GB is installed on a 32 bit Windows OS. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 My PC is now a screamer! And now off to play City of Heroes. http://www.cityofheroes.com. I am sure to notice an improvement in my PC's performance! :bounce:

Really? Is that an accurate quote or are you just guessing? I would have thought that they would actually charge more than that. But yeah, I did save some moohlah didn't I? Never thought about that aspect really. Cool! :sol:

pretty close guess. i'm not sure what they are charging now, but I seem to remember it being $50 once when I happened to wander over there for amusement.

Not to get too far off topic, but it's like me and working on cars. Sure I can and have been able to in the past: change the oil, replace a distributor cap, a headlight, etc, but do anything else? Not going to happen. So for some, paying $50-$100 for a PC upgrade/repair may well be worth it to those who choose to do so. Economy at work...lol. Perspective.

Congrats, more users need to take the leap like you, mind you it would give me less work of an afternoon lol...

Installing RAM is a good first project for a hardware newbie and for many people is the best bang-for-the-buck upgrade. I upgraded my laptop to 2GB for just $40 (and I still have 1GB left over!) One other thing you might want to do is run Memtest86+ (just Google for it... it's out there!) I have received a bad DIMM once and boy did that make my life miserable. Memtest86+ helped me isolate it and even simplified the RMA process. I simply told the person on the phone "Memtest failed" and a new module was sent.

Good for you! I tell people that this stuff isn't as hard as it looks, after all, humans do this kind of thing every day.

yup, geeksquad.com , currently it's 159.00 if you want them to install hardware, which is anything including ram, into your comp at your place, 40 dollars (plus tax) if you take the computer to them for the install.
