I'm trying to upgrade an old PC from 256mb to 512mb of memory. Its on a Gigabyte ga-6w7mm board and I got 2 256mb sticks that are the right ones for the board - PC 100 SDRAM. When I try one of any of the modules in either of the 2 slots it works fine. however adding the 2nd to make 512mb results in XP not booting. First XP screen comes up, DLLs start loading and it dies. Taking 1 module back out & rebooting is fine.
At BIOS level it sees the memory and boots fine stating the 512mb is there and recommending latency of '2' which I set it to. But still it does the same
Anyone got any ideas, the board supports a max of 512 and a max of 256 on each stick, the BIOS seems fine, just windows that stops.
