3 GTX or 4 3870?

I been wondering which would perform better in the new multi GPU systems, 3 8800GTX SLI or 4 3870 Crossfire X

lets forget the cost on this one

Nobody knows, quad xfire hasnt been released to public yet or to anyone for that matter.

3x 8800GTX SLI looks only good at 1920x1200 or higher, if not then it seems pointless to use.

I heard that with every card you add (3870) to the spider platform the performance really doubles/triples/quadruples, but I'm not sure if this is accurate.

I doubt the performance would triple/quadruple. However from what i've seen of Crossfired 3870 they scale very well, much better than nVidia's cards.

AMD stated a 3X performance boost from 1 HD3870 to 4 HD3870's. Given that benchmarks are out showing 2 3850's matching a single 8800GTX I would say its going to be very close.

I think either way performance will be fantastic. Might as well get the ATI version so you can boast about FOUR cards, it's more impressive than THREE

Depends whether ATIs need high res to scale 3times a single card.

If it can do it at any res, then nvidia will be destroyed.

Why GTX?
Arent the GT's pretty much equal?
Plus they are single slot so the middle card actually has some room to get airflow.

Is this one of those theoretical retard questions, or do u actually have a budget/need/application?

The 8800GT doesn't support Triple SLI. Neither does the G92 8800 GTS. If you really want 3 nVidia cards they have to be GTX or Ultra.

basically its a total waste no matter how you dress it up.... im willing to bet the 9800GTX whenever it comes out will smack both those setups to death.
