Good morning. I am in need of clarification on how many platters each of the western digital drive models below contains. I've been unable to locate the information on the WD website or via google searches. Most of the information I've found is contradictive, as some sites say one thing and others say another. Any platter information for any of the models below would be greatly sppreciated; particularly the desktop models and velociraptors. Thanks in advance!
UPDATE 10/9/08 @ 1pm EST: According to Western Digital pre-sales support, all current drives of theirs being manufactured follow a general guideline:
The raptors from what I understand use 150GB platters however. I thought I'd mention this for anyone else who is curious about this, as I thought they had 4 platter models such as the TB drives but they said those are 3 platters now.
Why do you need to know this for all of these models?
If it is truly necessary, I suggest contacting Western Digital directly, but the ones I do know are as follows:
Velociraptor: 150GB/platter (so the 300GB is 2 platter)
6400AAKS: 2 platter (320GB/platter)
1TB Caviar Black: 3 platter.
I believe the 7500AAKS is a 4 platter, but I'm not as sure about that one. As I said, if you really need to know, contact WD directly, though I don't see why it is so important.
It is for personal and business reasons. I keep a spreadsheet current with the proper specs as well as pricing for myself and for potential system builds. I'll try contacting them, though seeing that the web site is empty of any useful information, there must be a reason why they are deliberately excluding that particular specification. Strange if you ask me. Thanks for the reply. :-)

UPDATE: I have been unable to find a support # that doesn't require a serial # or a fee for support. I suppose I will have to send an email. Hopefully I will get the information I need that way, though it could take forever.
