Hello guys!

I am going to build my rig 2 weeks from now and I just want to know how much power I need. I will be experimenting on OCing as well (although really I am a total n00b at this).

My soon to be rig will have

DS3R
Q6600 (@3.0 - 3.6)
8800GTS 512 (@750 - 800 Mhz)
Corsair 2Gb TwinX 800Mhz ram
2 Hard drives
1 Writer
2-3 120mm fans
1 25cm case fan

I have tried a power calculator online but I really am not sure if the results are correct. I said I need at least 760W when in fact peaople in other forums say that <600 will do fine with OCing.

Can you please shed more light?

Thanks!

You dont need over 600 watts with 1 video card of any type as of yet. This would do you fine:

If you can spend a few more bucks you can get this psu and use it in your next rig or be able to upgrade again and go sli:

By the time you pay shipping on the cheaper one and get your rebate on the more expensive one its not much more of a difference for a lot more upgrade room for later...

Generally I would go with a PC Power and Cooling 610. It has a nice single 49amp 12v rail.

But, for $10 more (or equal after the $10 MIR) I would go with the Corsair 750. It also has a single 12v rail, with 60amps.

If you can find the first one for like $90-99, I would go with it. But of you can't, the Corsair would be the better buy at the same price.

Absolute minimum of 30 amps on the 12 volt rail - 35 to 40 amps would be better.

I am powering a similar system with a 650 watt Antec (52 amps total). But then, I prefer to operate a PSU at no more than a 70% load.

Hey guys, thanks for the input!

I really have been eye-ing the 620HX model from Corsair because it's modular. I might go for the 750TX tho for more headroom just to be on the safe side.

620W is enough, you do not have to go for the 750W model. Actually, a good quality 500W can handle your system, so 620W is overkill already.

It doesn't hurt to splurge a little more though if he has the money. :sol:
