Although I don't watch videos much on my pc, I'm looking for a new one for strictly gaming. What should be things I should look for in a gaming monitor? Also, why is the new trend all about widescreen?
Are Acer or Fujitsu Siemens any good? Its just that I get discounted by £50 if I buy from Currys (where I work) and they only have an two 22" moniters, Acer and FS. I dont mind I they are inferior to something like a samsung 206BW, just not totally crap.
IMO it is the 20" of these 2, but some people take size over everything. The 20" has the most pixels per inch of any monitor and that matters to me, plus when you need to downside your res to say 1440x900 for a game it doesnt take as much of a quality hit as it would on the 22". These are hands down the best imo, its just about your $ situation and size preference. As for everyone going widescreen. Its just how things are meant to be seen. That is why movies have been shot in widescreen from day one. I used to hate widescreen until I realized how much more I trully did enjoy being able to see everything easier on the screen. It just feels more natural for me. Hope this helps.

Of those 2 I would prefer an Acer. Oh and imo yes it slightly inferior, but not totally crap by any means and if you can manage a discount for them then I would say go for it.

Contrast ratios aren't that high. Also brands tend to over exaggerate contrast ratios by stating dynamic rather than static. For example, the Samsung 226w has a dynamic contrast ratio of 3000:1, but static contrast ratio (the "truer" measure) is 700:1.
Same can be said for response times since there is no standard for measuring response times.

I ordered a LG 20'1 and got 5000:1 with 2 ms. very good gaming montior. the color is very good looking very rich and color full. my rez 1680x1050 paid $249 from the egg and it works awesome. looks awesone on cnc3 and cod2 and cod 4 COHpposing fronts. and it looks awesome so does movie's
The best monitor is the biggest CRT you can still buy. Beyond that it basically boils down to anything with 10ms and below response times and what size and resolution you want.
Although if I was paid minimum wage through all the years I spent adjusting my screen to fit correctly with all of the most god awful schemes from buttons to scroll wheels I could probably get any 30" LCD.
Didn't flinch once when I saw the 24" LCD I had been watching go on sale after thanksgiving. 24" LCD compared to my 22" CRT is worlds apart.
#1 LCD has inputs for composite, component, s-video, d-sub/vga, DVI, and HDMI. All at once to. It's much brighter and the image processor scales any input very well.
#2 Even though going through VGA only works well at 60Hz with V-Sync I can't tell the difference compared to the 120Hz I was using on the CRT. HDMI and DVI work well up to 75Hz though without tearing.
#3 The resolution and screen size make it well worth it.
#4 The LCD can't be used as a boat anchor. Seriously when I wanted to turn my monitor around or carry it to a friends house it was a pain. The biggest hassle of all was always finding enough table room for monitors when I would have lan parties.

The best gaming monitors are crts. They all have 0 ms response time, show true black and have no one resolution.
This is the most true response to ANY question I have read in this section this evening. XD
Does this mean that I should stick with my flat screen 22" Mitsubishi DiamondPro 2070SB with Super Bright? I've been wondering if today's LCD's would be an improvement for gaming graphics.
The Samsung t260HD is a great 26" monitor with full 1080p and a built in TV tuner. Some people scream that the colors are washed out and images aren't sharp and then other people claim it is amazing.
I have seen quiet a few in person and plan to buy one myself and I say they look really good, not mind blowing but very good and doubles of as a TV.
response time my ass most of the monitors skip frames anyways to make up for the delay.
You think 2ms diff is gonna save your ass in a game what are you the worlds top pro at everything with super human reaction. Just buy a 2ms LCD monitor that reviewed well for color and contrast and you'll be plenty happy. Get a large rez LCD and say f u to tiny rez CRT and their big heater like status.
