I have a Sony 42 LCD RP. I had the 610 model, but started experiencing
greenish blotches on the display. Store replaced my 610 with the newer 655.
Six months later, I started getting these greenish spots on a dark screen
again. The store (PC Richard- NJ) is willing to replace my Sony with another
Sony 655 or another brand TV. Looking at the Hitachi and reading various
reviews, it seems that Hitachi has the edge not only in appearance but
overall performance over Sony. I have been looking at Hitachi's VS, V715,
and V710 models. Of course, the 50in. VS810 will cause me the shell out the
difference in cash, and I am considering it. It has a beautiful appearance
and fantastic display (and the 2 HDMI's is a plus!)...my only concern was
its anti-reflective protective acrylic glass shield wasn't so "reflective"
in the store. I like my Sony and think it also has a great display, but I
can't tolerate these spots no more. Any opinions? Suggestions? Sony v.
Hitachi? Or should I be looking at a Samsung or Panasonic? CONFUSED BEYOND
BELIEF!!!

I can't speak for the LCD models, but we're very happy with the Hitachi
57S715 CRT-RP we bought a few weeks ago. Prior to purchasing, we had
narrowed down our options between Hitachi and Sony, as they seemed to
have the best reputation. However, I've heard some *very* disparaging
things about Sony lately. Apparently, they've been doing a lot of
cost-cutting, and it's starting to show on many of their models. I've
heard very few complaints about Hitachi, but I'm sure there's exceptions
as always.

I've got the Hitachi 60VS715 and couldn't be happier. Look better than just
about any set out there with the stand it comes with, picture is just
awesome, menu's and adjustability are great. Couldn't be happier.

Both brands have their endemic service related problems, SONY with the Green
blotch, cracking panels, etc. Hitachi with failure of the drive board. When
they operate properly both are quite nice devices. Have you considered
Panasonic items?

What drive board problem are you talking about? You have some info? I
haven't experienced this issue, but if there is a problem looming around the
corner I'd like to know about it.

Are you satisfied with the protective glass on your Hitachi...do you have
any reflection problems? That was my only concern looking at he 50VS. It was
nice eye candy..great look...buy it seemed it had too many reflections. The
store did have it placed on a higher ledge and the fluorescent lights I'm
sure didn't help...

It doesn't bother me. It's not the most anti-relective on the market for
sure, but I never find it an issue.

Hitachi 50v/60V series are experiencing a symptom described either as
ghosting or disclouration Reinitization of the sets may temporarily satisfy
the operations. However Hitachi is recommending either the drive pwb or the
light engine be replaced depending on results of diagnostics. Hitachi's web
site has the specifics. Have not seen the issue with their later versions,
as of current, but let's see what turns up as they are in use for a while.

Glad I have the four year unlimited warranty. :-)

Wise move!! I not too keen on extended warranty plans but with the new
technologies being dumped on the market and the cost to the consumer it is a
prudent option. Too many times I have been in the presence of the consumer
when they are told what the actual cost will be to put that light engine
into a particular LCD or DLP plus the labour cost. "Lights dim, followed by
horrific screams of anguish", etc. LOL <
