I was wondering if it would be worth buying new cpu/motherboard/ram with only $500 to spend. I may be able to go slightly over $500 especially if I sell my old parts. My current setup is:

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-60 Dual Core Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
Motherboard: 939Dual-VSTA
Memory: 2014MB RAM

1. Will be used for gaming.
2.$500-$550
3.USA
4.Was AMD-fanboy but looking towards intel.
5.Can still use 500watt powersupply,case, and 8800GT
6.I have been searching through threads.
7. I may overclock slightly but nothing to intense.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

IMO dont do it...

looks like you use this box for gaming mostly... getting say a Q6600 mobo and ~4gb ram isnt going to improve your games all that much atm... save your money and wait for either new penryns and new highend GPU's and buy a new rig ... or if you can hold off nehalem should be awesome.

Yeah man what you have at the moment is pretty good and it's a waste to upgrade. Just use what you've got and wait for the next big thing (like chookman suggested).

I also agree,

With your current setup, as a gamer, until you must upgrade your GPU to a GPU that wont fit your MoBo, there is no need to upgrade further...

Some Quick and Easy tips for performance increases follow:

[1] Separate your OS drive from your Game drive...
( keeps the OS from doing a background task that stalls your in game experience ) ( make the game drive the fastest interface you have )
[2] Max out your RAM as available/appropriate...
[3] Upgrade the PSU only if a new Video Card requires it.
[4] Create a partition on your fastest non-game drive at 4GB ( 4128MB ) and set it to the only VM on your system, never use it for any other purpose... Even if buying a new additional HDD is required. ( Most people dont buy into this theory, but it has proven time and time again to me to be helpful... )
[5] And of course max out your MoBo to the top CPU possible.

These choices should keep you budget conscience... Until you have the $1250+ to do a full and significant upgrade to the base architecture.

Well i knew my cpu was a little older, but I was more concerned about my memory. Being on a 939 socket mobo, I'm still running older ddr memory. Do you think upgrading everything.. having a little faster cpu and memory would help me that much?
