Hi Guys,

Planning to build a new computer around the end of Dec to replace my current 4 year old computer. I'm actually from Australia so my links will be from vendors over here.

Currently I'm looking at:

CPU:
Intel E6750 Core 2 Duo
http://www.itestate.com.au/products_detail.asp?code=PD00004891

Mobo:
Intel BLKDP35DPM, INTEL P35/LGA775/ATX/1333FSB/G-LAN/PCIe X16/AUDIO/RAID
http://www.penta.com.au/template.php?seqid=13484

RAM:
Corsair-Performance 2GB (2x1024) 800MHz XMS2 TWINX2 MATCHED (TWIN2X2048-6400) 5-5-5-15
http://www.itestate.com.au/products_detail.asp?code=PD00004095

or
Desktop DDR2 Ram 2GB Kit (2x1024MB) PC6400 800MHz Geil Ultra 4-4-4-12
http://www.itestate.com.au/products_detail.asp?code=PD00004475

(I don't know much about rams and there aren't as many brands to choose from over here, so please help me decide)

Video Card:
Leadtek Winfast PX8800GT PCI-E 2.0 512MB 256-bit GDDR3, 600/1800MHz
http://www.onlinevip.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=2905&osCsid=8cc19f508b96435c57e76a954a94a404

HD:
WD WD3200AAKS WD 320G 16MB 7200 SATA2 3.5"

(I've already bought this 2 months ago because my old maxtor play dead on me, so I hope it won't be much of a problem if I just plug this HD into my new rig)

Case & PSU:
ANTEC Sonata 3 (III) Black with Antec EarthWatts 500w PSU

http://www.itestate.com.au/products_detail.asp?code=PD00004873

(Running on a low budget so this is probably the only case that comes with a decent PSU within my budget)

Sound Card:
Sound Blaster Audigy Value

(Do I really need one or the one on the intel board is sufficient?)

Optical Drive:
Pioneer DVR-115DBK 20x IDE

(This is the drive I'm currently using, hoping to salvage this to save myself $30 :sarcastic: )

I'm currently using an ASUS VW222U 22" monitor and hoping that this new rig will be enough to run games smoothly in 1650x1050 for at lease a year or two. Please give any suggestions if I can improve this build any further without overclocking or putting in anymore money as this is already the most I can spend.

Thanks Guys!!!

Well any reason why you are going with that stock INTEL board here are few options to consider, all are in US$

MSI P35 Neo2-FR:ASUS P5K-E $142

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R 2.0 130

Foxconn P35A-S $125

MSI P6N SLI Platinum

Splendid
FYI, the Intel board doesn't support PS/2 mouse & keyboard:

You don't need the sound card unless you're an audiophile. If you're buying one, buy the best or nothing. The onboard sound is fine.

Memory makes & models don't matter a lot if you're not overclocking. Get the best deal.

The EarthWatts 500w is more than enough for the 8800gt & the computer. It's quality to boot.

At 1650x1050, you may have to tone down in-game video settings for the best performance. At 1440x900, my 8800gt stutters once in a while with everything maxed out.

Thanks for the heads up akhilles, looks like I'll have to invest on a new set of mouse & keyboard as well....

lolitha, the only reason I'm choosing the stock intel board is because I heard that it's pretty solid for people who don't overclock their systems. I've had to replace so many parts in the last 4 years so this has become a priority over performance. :pfff:
