I'm trying to rehab my son's Hypersonic MX6 notebook computer. He took the hard drive out and all I know about it is from the invoice. It says "100GB 5400rpm Ultra ATA Hard Drive w/ 8MB Cache". I looked at all these hard drives online, but don't know how to tell which ones will work with this computer. Some say SATA. Is this the same. Thanks from a confused mom.

Sata will not work. You need to get a Ultra ATA drive, also known as ATA-6. Here is a newegg listing of possible drives for you:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] name=ATA-6
Personally I would stay away from the 4200RPM drives on that list because they will be epically slow.

Thanks so much. I ordered a Seagate hard drive today from the list that you recommended at Newegg.com.

You welcome, I hope the rehab goes well for your son's laptop.
