XFX Geforce 8600GTS or HIS Radeon HD 2600 XT

Hi, I was wondering which one would give me the best perfomance in games.

The 8600: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3048543

OR

The 2600: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3244198&CatId=1826

I don't need to play games at a high resolution. Only at 1024x768

More about geforce 8600gts radeon 2600
  1. the 8600gts should be faster, but if you can add a little more $$ you can get the ati hd3850 that is a lot faster than the two
  2. second that 8600 is faster at lower resolutions.. but 3850s are cheap and so much more powerful
  3. Yeah defiantly get the 3850 for just a bit more. Here's one from the same line as the 2600XT you listed.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161216
Or you could get the 2600XT for much less over here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102703
    There's always a good 2900GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102712
This one has a big sale right now. It's about the same as the 8600GTS you listed.

Just realized you said lower resolutions; that's the 256MB model.
  5. The price difference is because the ones I showed are in canadian prices. I dont have enough money for the hd3850 but I think ive found a better card for the same price.

  6. I guess il go with the 8600 GTS cause i dont trust the ATI drivers.

That's a 'little bit' better than the DDR3 version, though I'd vote for the 3850. :D
  8. Depends on what games you wish to play but the 8600 and 2600 are only DX10 on paper anyway.. they don't have enough power.. look at DX9 cards (ATi DX9 still hold true in many games unlike many 7 series nvidia cards it seems)

I dont really intend on playing DX 10 Games with the card.
  10. Im just gonna go with my orginal choice. XFX The 8600 GTS 256MB. Thanks 4 your help you guys!
  11. This is a perfect example where plenty of people provide the best help possible but to no luck with ignorant people. Trust us, the 3850 is a great card, it performs on a competly different scale for a minmial cost increase. The drivers are fine.
  12. Those prices stink. But shoot, just to back up the 3850, it's twice the card the 8600GTS is: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3151&p=8
  13. The prices are higher cause there canadian. lol

I cant afford the 3850 though. Thats why im going with the 8600 GTS.

ATI HD 3850s are going for $179 on www.ncix.com right now. They eat 8600GTS for breakfast. I mean like 30-50% more frames per second. The 8600 is really not a good investment of your money at this point in time espescially if your looking for around $165 for the card.

    EDIT: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=26984&vpn=3850PE3256SB&manufacture=Diamond
    also comes with valve's blackbox
  15. Ok il look at that card. Il probablly end up getting it too. Thanks for the help.
