Just wanting some help with regards to buying graphics card.I've got a board that supports SLI and wanting to get a decent card for gaming. My options is either 2x 8600GT in SLI mode or one by 8800GTS.Which of the two would give me better performance.I could get two by 8600GT cheaper than the 8800GTS

1x 8800GTs surely. The performance off that card (and i assume you mean the 512mb G92) is much better than the 8600. Save more money in the future for a second one. OR get an 8800GT which would save you some more money, and is almost as good.

If you want cheap performance, get a $180 Radeon 3850. The same performance of the 8800 GTS (original version), twice the performsnce of SLI'd 8600 GTs, for less $$ than two 8600 GTs.

Word.

Or if you're spending a bit more the 8800GT is a bargain.

Double word.
And then he could use SLI in the future, if he wanted to.

I don't see the 8800gts 320 or 640 as a viable option anymore. The 512mb 8800gt easily outclasses both of them for much less. To reiterate, stay away from the 8600gt and 8800gts. The 256mb 8800gt is great for lower resolutions and bests the hd3850 for a few dollars more.
