So I picked up an 8800gts 640 2 months ago, shortly after testing it out and playin with it i decided to overclock this thing. So i stayed around 620-650\900 ish.s This weekend I tryed to go a little further, while playing crysis all weekend long @ 700/900 fan@90% Max temp 72c The card was rock solid. What the ****. Has anyone hit this speed before (on stock cooling) am i going to melt my shaders? Any info would be helpfull.

Yeah, but I have a 640 and it would get a little too hot to run sustained (more than 10mins) over 675 with the stock cooler. With a waterblock, I have run it at 725, but usually back it down to ~700. A lot of it has to do with luck of the draw...some cards will clock higher or run better than other identical cards just because of unforseeable manufacturing in the vram, PCB/components or gpu.

I honestly wouldnt push the card that hard. Having your fan on 90% during full load is fine... but its going to wear the card out faster than normal. If you back down a bit on your card, it will last a lot longer.

Also, if your fan has a hiccup or somthing goes wrong... say bye bye to your card.
