I'm upgrading a build and I'm deciding what to get. As the 9000 series with it's over DOUBLE performance of anything seen here, I'm wondering if it's better to wait then to buy something current-gen. I do have a Crossfire motherboard, so that's something to consider, though I doubt even two 3870's will be close to a 9800.
or you might want to wait for the new ATI cards (r680 i think, correct me if i'm wrong) to come out (supposedly somewhere in the 1t quarter) and run them crossfire. i'm building a rig and i'm also thinking about that, but at the end, it all depends on the performance/price of the card
My advice I tell everyone who asks such questions...
"If you always wait till the newest/best hardware comes out, you will never buy a computer"
With that being said... Get a decent computer that is upgradable in the future. Its the best idea to buy the step down from the top of the line parts because.... You get just about the same performance, spend less money, and can still upgrade later on.
Folius normally I agree... but if you were someone wanting SLI, the 680i boards are at the end of the road.... and there really is no middle ground between it and the 780i... so waiting may be the right thing to do with it.... but that is a special case, overall you are bang on
Well, those are assumptions, always take specs released by manufactures with a grain of salt, I know.
To me, I'm now thinking about either going with a 9800 when it comes out or a 39XX - more to the ATI solution because of CF mobo.
I currently have a 7600GT which is holding up okay overclocked. I'd say skipping this current gen is worth the two months.
