Hello there!

This is my first post, hopefully you could help me.

Q: Can I use my current bootable HD with XP home on a new motherboard.? I have about 150 applications installed.

Currently I'm using an Intel D865Perl motherboard with P4 HT.

New Motherboard will be Gigabyte DS3L P35 and Q6600 processor.

I don't want to start from scratch and install everything again.

Thanks.

More then likely you will never get it to boot. At the very least you will have to boot from cd and do a Restore from the CD. This may still cause problems. Its worth a try though.

You could do a repair install if it's XP.
A repair install might work. The computer might be a little slower though.
You would be better off reinstalling, because the chipsets are so different.

This is the microsoft support instructions for replacing a motherboard. Note the More Information section on OEM replacements.

Never mind the nay-sayers. Google SYSPREP, and ignore the step about duplicating the drive.

Of course whatever you do, run a full backup first! And make sure you didn't lose your product key.

This work around doesn't work. When I install the WindowsXP CD it tells me that a newer version XP is installed and it doesn't allow me to continue. In details it recommends me to boot from the CD. When doing and I follow all steps, it tells me that it will overwrite everything. I didn't continue ........or should I?
