Press F8 during post repeatedly until a boot menu comes up. Then select Command Prompt, with or without networking is up to you.
December 21, 2007 12:23:38 AM

i do that and all that does is load my drivers then starts windows in safe mode where it still wants my Admin password
December 21, 2007 12:25:06 AM

If it is loading safe mode when you select command prompt, then you have a problem I've never seen :p  Maybe your MBR got corrupted? Do you have any type of boot disk you can use?
December 21, 2007 12:25:29 AM

At my workplace we would use a linux crack CD we have. It boots a lean linux OS and then runs a program where you can reset your password.
December 21, 2007 12:40:44 AM

Sounds like you have a pirated XP and you did a windows update and it broke your crack. Now you are screwed.

Anyone think this is another wind-up?

(Look! I speak British!)
December 21, 2007 1:03:14 AM

Maybe. Either way, the thread title is misleading. Should read 'Help, lost my password' or 'I can't log into my stolen computer.'

OP: you can find the answer to this question in about .0521 seconds with a google search. Probalby no one here (myself included) will answer it due to the possibly sketchy nature of the question.

I don't think that you can get into DOS with Windows XP as DOS is no part of Windows. Maybe a boot disk but thats it.
December 21, 2007 2:48:56 AM

Only time I've ever seen this problem was on hacked xp that got updated lol. Ebay is full of computers with xp pro hacked for dirt cheap.

The Boot Menu (which is F8 as Thanatos said) should give you the options as best as I can remember:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with networking
Command Prompt
Command Prompt with networking
VGA Mode
System Restore
Start Windows Normally

Unless configured differently, it gives you 30 seconds to choose. Also, how can you forget a password ESPECIALLY for The Administrator.

To road:
Yeah, it sounds like a hacked XP. Never heard of a legal copy of XP not accepting a password for any account.

This is not a "CPUs and Componets" subject. Please move.

Your legitimate CD copy of XP will work as a bootdisk. Why not use it?

Although I would hate to see someone with a legit problem get banned, the fact that he is looking for a way to bypass a password doesn't seem right to me. The OS will not just stop accepting passwords, if it's doing that, you reformat, coz it's screwed up bad.

I vote illegitimate. The mods can decide what action should be taken, if the guy is not on a public computer, his IP and MAC addresses will point right to him.

lol i simply cant get my password to accept ... you geniuses think to hard in your paranoia ..... however it might have happened it wont go in... and my boot disk was stepped on by my toddler over a year ago... thus my situatuon... lol jesus such a helpful crew ,.... i just didnt want to pay for a new boot disk
December 24, 2007 12:41:44 AM

Whatever. Passwords dont just screw up. You either stole a computer or used illegal OS. No help for you.

Lol now he is patroling rooms that I post in saying bad things. Guess he will be banned soon.
December 24, 2007 1:08:05 AM

Mods, we don't need people like bubba43 on here. And if you want to send him up my way I'll show him how much fun it is to be used for traction by an Avon VenomR 300/35X/18 Rear Tire.
December 24, 2007 1:08:12 AM

I know for a fact the only way not to have the right password is a stolen PC, or a hacked xp that got updated.

Both are illegal, and I'm not going to help even though I know how.

Mods: Since this a**wipe is changing IDs, why not just find out his IP and block him?

Ohhhhh.....cmon now man....we cant catch everyone instantly. I do have a job ya know, and I dont get paid for this, so its not exactly the highest priority in my life :kaola:  ;)

I just bought my first Laptop. in the instructions or 1st boot.. it clearly said that do not ask for help on a master password. Under no circumstances will the maker (lenovo, in this case) help to bypass a master pw.

Hooray for the forum. Nice to see some moral's.

Someone caught me pretty damn fast, and I don't even know what for. Maybe if I started a "Help me boost my folding@home score without running a single client" thread I'd be more understanding.
