I get to the point where i start PC with command prompts and hit enter but all that does is run a list og the loading drivers and then starts the PC in safe mode ...I cant get it to go to the C:\ comman prompt ...I am running XP and it will no longer accept my password ... I have been told a few differnt things to try during the start up such as pressing the page break key ..... or holding the windows key and R at the same time none of them pull up the command prompt ..please help ... if anyone might know another way to solve this passsord issue please let me know ...ythank you

If it is loading safe mode when you select command prompt, then you have a problem I've never seen :p Maybe your MBR got corrupted? Do you have any type of boot disk you can use?

Maybe. Either way, the thread title is misleading. Should read 'Help, lost my password' or 'I can't log into my stolen computer.'

OP: you can find the answer to this question in about .0521 seconds with a google search. Probalby no one here (myself included) will answer it due to the possibly sketchy nature of the question.

The Boot Menu (which is F8 as Thanatos said) should give you the options as best as I can remember:

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with networking
Command Prompt
Command Prompt with networking
VGA Mode
System Restore
Start Windows Normally

Unless configured differently, it gives you 30 seconds to choose. Also, how can you forget a password ESPECIALLY for The Administrator.

To road:
Yeah, it sounds like a hacked XP. Never heard of a legal copy of XP not accepting a password for any account.

Although I would hate to see someone with a legit problem get banned, the fact that he is looking for a way to bypass a password doesn't seem right to me. The OS will not just stop accepting passwords, if it's doing that, you reformat, coz it's screwed up bad.

I vote illegitimate. The mods can decide what action should be taken, if the guy is not on a public computer, his IP and MAC addresses will point right to him.
