I e-mailed Gigabyte about disabling DES on this board.

Answer : Dear Customer,

Yes. The DES is enabled by loading the utility program. If the DES program not loaded, it will not be enabled.

So the answer turned out to be a big DUHH.
Just uncheck the box when installing drivers and utilities.
