i live in Africa, where the ambient temperature is a bit high... sooo cooling is important for me, since i just have a stock cooler from intel for now and the temps are a bit high (60-70 idle) i would like to know what's the lowest CPU voltage i can put on my processor so it gets cooler...
my pc consists of :
Motherboard - Asus P5N32-E SLI PLUS
CPU - Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ Stock
Graphics card - Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX @ Stock
RAM - 2 GB RAM (Legend i think, not very impressive)
HDD - 400GB HDD Seagate Barracuda 7200.10
power supply - Procase 550W
the VID is 1.2750v and i lowered in the bios to 1.17v and the temperatures dropped to 50-52-50-49 idle (using coretemp )
i just lowered the voltage do 1.05 and when i ran prime95 it restarted... so i put 1.10v and its stable... with idle temps at 47-49-47-45C =) and load around 68-68-73-66 C, =/...
is there any other voltages that i can lower to make my cpu cooler? or anything else i can do?
the reason i dont use an aftermarket cooler is because they don't sell them here im Mozambique... i need to go to south africa maybe to buy one
i checked and the cooler is properly mounted... one thing to mention is that i don't have a good after market thermal paste. the one i`m using is a white crappy thermal paste =P...
My Q6600 G0 runs stock 2.4GHz at 1.075V (BIOS) 24/7 Prime95 stable on a noname LC Power 550W (green power) PSU. I mention the PSU because it ran 3.0GHz at 1.24375V (BIOS) on that PSU and now runs 3.0GHz at 1.22500V (BIOS) on a Corsair HX 620W. I haven't tried lower voltages at stock but it could go a notch or two lower I guess.
I posted in graysky's thread sometime in November 2007 (while running stability tests) asking if this was "normal" for a VID = 1.30000V chip.
Temperatures are around 40C at load (24h Prime95, 4 threads).
witch is the best Air cooler for the Q6600? i want to know the BEST OF THE BEST... so i can get the lowest temperature ... i don't really mind the noise.. just as long as i have the desired cooling.
^No. There's 20. 10 for performance and 10 for silence. If you look closely you'll see 5 NEW and 5 OLD per side.
More is rarely less and in this case the XIGMATEK comes cheap, SUNBEAM is not sold here (for some funny "green" directive banned gas in their heatpipes).
5OLD:5NEW could be but a coincidence but it's not really an important detail I think. What I was trying to say is it's better to have a wider selection. I never really payed attention to the OLD/NEW stickers as shops here tend not to have the widest of selections anyway.
I was quite happy to get the TRUE + SFF21F and the HDT-S1283 in local shops ... but payed through the roof for the TRUE.

i'm now running @ 2.678GHz @1.15v... my system seems fine.. but when i run prime95 for hours... its restarts... but just when its for a loooooong time....
any ideas?? and i cant get pass 1190 on the rated FSB , when i put 1195 its start's windows... but with prim95 it crashes, if i put 1200 it doesnt even go to windows... =(... what can i do?
i appreciate your help...
and tks for the site =) i just need to figure out where to buy the sunbeamtech=P
the memory is already unlinked... and i put 1.270v for 1333 and it just wont go.... ahhhh... my bios version is 1003... is that a good bios version? maybe that's the problem
it was a 0302, but i could not do anything with it, so i upgraded it to 1003
what do you think about this version:
Version 0805 2007/08/27 update
Description P5N32-E SLI Plus BIOS version 0805

2. Add new CPU uCode to support new processors
3. Enhance memory compatibility
4. Enhance overclocking capability
5. Enable support for ASUS SK-2690 keyboard
6. Enable support for Razer Copperhead USB Mouse
is it good?
if soo ill load that one instead, but my only concern is that there are some bios versions that are faulty =S..
Version 0501 2007/02/15 update
Description P5N32-E SLI Plus Release BIOS version 0501
1. Enhance memory compatibility
2. Enable support for FSB 1333Mhz CPU

4. Fixed Vcore error when CMOS checksum fail
5. Fixed summary page "CPU ID/ucode ID" string will show "CPU ID/uc" instead
6. Update EZ-Flash version to B319
7. Finetune H/W Monitor Voltage warning range
8. Fixed system hang when Music Alarm play length is over 1 hour
9. Lock 'F8' and 'DEL' function key when after entered EZFlash
10. Fixed Music Alarm auto shutdown when using Presler 3.4GHz CPU with WD1200 HDD and ASUS DRW1612BL
11. Fixed system may show "error loading operation system" message when using CHS mode PATA HDD, and set "Access Mode" to CHS at the same time
12. Fix system will report error when there is Legacy floppy is disabled at the same time when SATA ODD is the only device connected to this motherboard
13. Enhance HDD compatibility
14. Change Max FSB to 650MHz on AI-Booster
15. Fixed CPR fail when overclock too much
16. Finetune USB driving
17. Fixed power Fan can't work after S3
18. Set DDR2 Termination Max default Votlage to 1.25V (Memory Voltage is 2.5V)

21. Change CopyRight year from 2006 to 2007.
22. Fixed memory clock mode option may disappear when SLI ready memory is used
23. Enable support for LinkBoost
the memory is already unlinked... and which is best, unlinked or 1:1?
i think that maybe it's the MOBO bios version it was originally 0302 and i upgraded it to:
Version 1003 2008/05/13 update
Description P5N32-E SLI Plus BIOS 1003.
1. Fix LAN fails after resuming from S3 mode.
2. Enhance compatibility with certain add-on Raid card.
but theres another one that i want to know if its better:

That's the current state of this forum. Nothing really works as it should. It also looks like something that came from inside a cow's rear end.
Okey. So raise the Vcore to 1.3V and try 1333MHz. If it still doesn't work switch memory to 1:1 and try again. It's hard to believe it needs so much voltage for 333MHz FSB. Could be the NVIDIA motherboard.
I have no idea about the BIOS revisions for that board (the latest you have should be the best).
Nothing really.
I'd ask you to show me a screenshot of CPU-Z/HWMonitor/CoreTemp at the highest stable frequency (idle and load) but I'm really out of ideas.
You could try
300MHz : 2.7GHz @ 1.3V
311MHz : 2.8GHz @ 1.3V
322MHz : 2.9GHz @ 1.3V
And see what's still stable. Maybe it just needs more voltage.
I would stay under 1.4 but that's just me.
i'm gunna do that... i lowered my cpu to stock settings, im waiting for the stores to have thermal paste so i can try another cpu (identical 2.4GHz but maybe i can get a better overclock) then ill put the results here =)... tks for your help i really appreciate it
