Doom 3 not working

Whenever i try to play Doom 3 on my pc it starts up like normal with the screen with play, uninstall, etc and if i press play it shows the doom 3 logo and after a few seconds it sounds like its loading but then it closes, stops loading and dosent start up. can someone help?

You might need to run it in XP compatible mode.
