For the past year...literally...I've had a Dell laptop accessing my home Wi-Fi connection with no problems. It auto-connected just fine. All this time it's been running the default install of Vista (if I updated it, it was moooonths ago). Tonight I get a "Local Only" connection.
My router still has a specific range of IPs...101 to 106....the IP I tied to the laptop's Wi-Fi card's MAC Address is still set correctly. NOTHING has been touched.
I did some research online and found people talking about weird problems with ipv6 in Vista giving "Local Only" results. I figure "what the hell" and disconnect, disable ipv6 from the card's properties and then reconnect. It works! Local and Internet.
I disconnect and reconnect....Local Only again.
It seems it will only work the FIRST time after I disable ipv6 and never again. I found a Microsoft page describing how to edit the registry with a new Key and DWORD to disable all aspects of ipv6 from Vista.
