For the past year...literally...I've had a Dell laptop accessing my home Wi-Fi connection with no problems. It auto-connected just fine. All this time it's been running the default install of Vista (if I updated it, it was moooonths ago). Tonight I get a "Local Only" connection.

My router still has a specific range of IPs...101 to 106....the IP I tied to the laptop's Wi-Fi card's MAC Address is still set correctly. NOTHING has been touched.

I did some research online and found people talking about weird problems with ipv6 in Vista giving "Local Only" results. I figure "what the hell" and disconnect, disable ipv6 from the card's properties and then reconnect. It works! Local and Internet.

I disconnect and reconnect....Local Only again.

It seems it will only work the FIRST time after I disable ipv6 and never again. I found a Microsoft page describing how to edit the registry with a new Key and DWORD to disable all aspects of ipv6 from Vista.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/n [...] v6faq.mspx

Once implemented I tried to reconnect....Local and Internet!!...then I disconnect/reconnect....back to Local Only! ARGHH

Also, I notice that when I finally DO connect during these tests, it's not using my network name of "Triagia"...it's "Triagia 2". ??

So I'm stupified as to why this...a) just started out of seemingly nowhere and b) the strangeness w/ the pseudo ipv6 "fix".
