Hey guys, I know there have been a lot of questions regarding the Q6600 so I just thought I'd add one more. lol

My setup is:

Q6600 CPU
Antec Nine Hundred Case
XFX NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI MCP Enthusiast Motherboard
Zalman 9700NT HSF
MSI NX8800GTX OC Edition
4GB Corsair XMS2 DHX 4-4-4-12
Antec Trio 650W PSU

[Using coretemp and Everest Ultimate for temps] Edit: TAT also seems to crash my system lol

I've run the CPU at stock 2.4 and ran OC'd at 3GHz and there is basically little difference in the idle temps, this normal? I've also dropped the voltage to the CPU and only noticed a very slight temp decrease. I've checked the HSF and that seems fine. Stock settings im idling at around 35 to say 38,40 degrees and when OC'd im idling at around 38 to 40. I am aware that the nForce chipsets do run a littler warmer but am a tad baffled at the similar temps at stock and when OC'd. Any advice/opinions would be great ambient temp would be around 18-23. :)

As far as idle temps, I really didn't see much of a difference for a dual core (e4400) so I 'd say that would be normal. With speed step enabled, it can also help decrease the heat produced by the CPU, running it at a lower ghz @ idle.

However, there was a difference on the load temps, using Othos or Prime95. (edit: though I didn't remember to write them down )

You could just do a lil test for yourself to see what the difference would be for your quad.

Prime95 is running well OC'd at 3GHz gets to a max temp of around 49-51 while torture testing. However Thermal Analysis Tools gives me a blue screen, im running Windows XP Pro x64 so I'm not sure if TAT runs on it. lol

when i first booted up my rig, the fan on my 9500 AT was barely moving, it would kind of try to start spinning but stop. i later found out that after much worrying, it was idling at 28C (dunno how?) but therefore the fan didn't need to spin. im ocd to 3ghz (9x333) and i idle at 35C with my p190 case fans running on medium. i think that intel has got this chips heat spreader in the bag coz it is so cool.

Yes this is normal. The best reason I can think of is SpeedStep

Yeah cool, am overclocked at the moment so SpeedStep is turned off, while running Prime95 my temp is around 47-52
