I have a brand new Linksys wireless router model WRT54G2 connected to my cable companiy's (Brighthouse) Scientic Atlanic DPC 2100 Series Cable modem. I followed Linksys instructions at http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bi [...] 53tj&p_li=, but I still can't connect to the Inernet through my router (either with a Cat5 cable or wirelessly) I can however connect by cable directly to my modem. I think my connection problem has to do with my router settings. But which ones? Tomorrow I have a appointment with the Cable techie to replace the modem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Did you power cycle the cable modem? Cable modems remember the MAC adress of the first network device they connect to. You might need to clone the MAC address of your PC on the router.

I powered cycle both the modem and the router countless number of times. The MAC address was already cloned as per the instructions in http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bi [...] 53tj&p_li=

1. Turn off both modem and router.

2. Turn on modem and let it boot up.

3. Turn on router and let it boot up.

4. Log into the router with your browser at 192.168.1.1 (unless you changed the address).

5. What does your router show for IP addresses on the status page?

6. Is it necessary to clone your mac address for the cable connection?

7. Is the DHCP server enabled on the router? To provide your pc with a LAN IP address.

8. Is the network adapter on your pc set to obtain an address?

9. Run in a CMD window the command "ipconfig /all" and see what IP address your pc network adapter has.
