Hey guys, as the title suggests I'm interested in finding out which motherboards you guys would suggest for running 3870's in crossfire with an Intel CPU.

I know there are some choices but i'm not sure which chipset that is currently out is the best for this situation.

Thanks in advance!

All Intel chipsets support crossfire, but P35 and P965 are limited at x16/x4 for the speed of the PCI-E slots. X38 is the current high end Intel chipset that supports full PCI-E 2.0 x16 speed crossfire. The previous high-end Intel chipset, 975X supports x8/x8 crossfire.

The only crossfire motherboard for Intel with an AMD/ATI chipset is the DFI board using the CrossFire Xpress3200 Intel edition chipset, which allows for x8/x8 crossfire.

The x16/x4 is noticeably slower in some of the more demanding games, but the difference between x8/x8 and x16/x16 is much less pronounced.

I would look at an X38 board, like the Asus P5E if you want crossfire 3870s on an Intel machine, as 975X and CrossFire Xpress3200 IE are outdated now.

Good advice, well said! I actually just got off newegg and was looking at that P5E. Great-looking motherboard, I think that's the one i'll be going with.

Thanks Gravemind for the great answer, I'm sure that'll help anyone who reads this.
