Wanted to start an information post about the Q9450 CPU to help consolidate the posts about it. Also because it will most likely be the best seller of the upcoming Quad 45nm CPUs. Since it's the least costing of the lot with 12MB of cache.

Nice Post. I have been playing with a Q9550 ES in my job. I can't believe how cool it runs. I have not really done any benchmarking just general use in both Windows XP 32bit and Vista 32bit. I really like how it runs.

I have been using it with a Bone Trail X38 motherboard. You need to use Bios BT.1358 to have the Yorkfield uCode in it though.

For the Canucks, ncix.com has all the Wolfies and Yorkies listed with "1 to 2 weeks" shown as availbility.

i thought intel delayed all new quads until march due to no competition from the "true quad" company and clear out inventory?

u may be waiting months for that cpu?

That's the conventonal story but who the hell knows? I'm waiting for ncix to open on the 26th so I can call them and find out what the deal is with these 45nm CPUs!

Intel has not stated a Release Date for the Quad Cores beyond 'Q1.

However, I seriously doubt 1-2 weeks.
The earliest date I have ever heard was Jan 20 '08.
The latest rumors are Feb/March '08 but Intel has only confirmed Q1.

Yes, I'm sure that's the way it is too, but still, ncix is a major retailer and I don't think that they would mislead people into beleving that they would get a Q9550 in a couple of weeks if it would be March. But then again, who knows???

The order status from shopBLT lists that my Q9450 is on ETA to arrive in 3-15 business days.

I'm in Upper Canuckia so I can't buy from shopBaconLettuce&Tomato. But all I know is what I see here and its the same with all Yorkies (minus QX9650) and Wolfies!

Yeah I think them merchants are wrong... They probably don't realize the quads have been delayed or something.
I highly doubt they will really have Q9450's in stock in a few weeks let alone days.... =\

ALSO--- some sites have sorta benched the Q9450, by toning down the clocks on the extreme edition penryns. It does a bit better then a Q6600 at the same clock speeds, but nothing amazing unless it uses SSE4. Though the Q9450 should OC a bit better then a Q6600, it will be badly limited by it's 8x multiplier (as revealed to me by other great toms hardware forum members).

that was my first thought too but then who is dropping the prices today and why? You wouldn't think that they're doing this in a vacum? Something must be going on. If they were wrong about the dates etc. you can explin that away by saying that they just put it up on their database and forgot about it. But someone is messing with the listings today. Doesn't make sense that its out of ignorence. But who the hell knows?
