I'm working on a new build using (in short) the components below. What would you recommend for a decent (around 4Ghz) overclock?

2 8800GTs
E8400
2X2GB Ballistix

A 790i mobo? The only SLI-compatible boards are Nvidia chipsets, which are the 7xxi series. They are reported to have quite a large Vdroop, making OCing difficult, but not impossible. I would think most of the 790i could hit 450MHz FSB (To give you 4GHz OC), but it may require a lot of tweaking and time.

If you don't care about tri-SLI, or ddr3 then I would say that you should go for an Nvidia 750i chipset. They should be able to hit 4ghz on air fairly easily with that cpu, requiring only a slight boost in voltage to the cpu.

BS evilonigirl the 790i, 780i, 750i, 680i, 650i and 680iLT(which I own) will all reach about a 500 MHz(reference) FSB without added voltage to the northbridge. IN Somban's case the cooling on his processor will be the limiting factor in how high he can make his e8400 crank.

I think Evil is right. The FSB will get over 450 on the 790i, but the Vdrop/droop combo may make a higher speed difficult to reach because of the voltage to the CPU. (Processor speed.)

However, we all know that there is a simple Pencil mod that can be done, and it can alleviate 50% of VDroop and drop, or more, depending on your connection strength.

I hope team is right as well! You have ran it with no problems at 500 before? As in, did you test it that high? I am gonna have to buy a SLI board, and I like to go with the newest and best, so any testing data you may have on it would be greatly appreciated!!

I have a pair of Ultras which one sits on a shelve, and I just picked up a pair of EVGA 8800 GTs SC's. I better use SLI on one of them. I know how to do the mods to ditch that pesky VDrop/droop junk, so that looks like a decent board.

That means ddr3! Waaaahhhh!
