Hello, i recently am starting to think my rig is not up to par for running some of the newer games, such as crysis. Therefore, being christmas time and all, I have decided to spend a few hundred pounds on a new computer part. My question to you experts is, what shall i upgrade to achieve the maximum performance boost possible, in other words, which piece of hardware is currently bottlenecking my system. Any recommendations of what to buy would also be very welcome.

My current specs:
AMD x2 4400+
2 gig RAM
Asus A8N-SLI deluxe
ATI x1900xt 512MB
200GB SATA Maxtor HD 7200rpm

many thanks,

Personally, a 8800 GT 512 model will help quite a bit, but the x2 4400+ will begin to bottleneck. You'd have to nab a new cpu and videocard, a faster x2 procesor would help. But you'd have to go up towards the high end x2's to make a difference.

But, a 8800 GT will massively increase your performance, than later down the line, you might want a CPU upgrade, either a straight up upgrade to let's say a x2 6000, or a new mobo/cpu for a intel based system.

If you plan to overclock, you can get a lot for your money with a intel based rig. But if you don't, a x2 6000 should do you fine to add some more life to your rig. But first, a 8800 GT should help.

What resolution do you play in though?..depends for the graphics card, lower resolutions could get by with a 8800 GT 256, or ati 3850 256.

BTW, what motherboard and power supply do you have?

yes get a 8800gt 512 videocard and go from there, you will get better performance then what you have now with out upgrading the cpu and then go from there

What games are you playing and what is your monitor resolution? That will give us a better idea on what to recommend.

8800GT, or if you have the cash and don't mind paying what they are getting for them right now, one of the new 8800GTS's-512meg version. (not the old way overpriced 320 and 640 meg ones)
Overclock your 4400 X2. It should easily reach 4800 X2 speeds without much trouble or worry.
