Use pre-built HDD on a home-built computer

As the title asks, if I take a hard drive from a $200 eMachine computer - can I still use everything if I install my drivers? (Everything mainly meaing operating system; I'm too cheap and lazy to partition a hard driver with Windows myself.)

A different motherboard usually requires a new OS install (for Windows, anyways). You could use the drive, however - assuming you have a connection on the new motherboard for it.
