We use D-Link Wireless networking and also D-Link Print Server for a Canon MP600 combo printer / Scanner. All computers are XP.
Using a HP Pavilion Laptop dv9000 series, with XP Media edition if relevant, when I use the wireless network for being on the net there is no problem.

When I install the Canon MP600 on my HP Laptop I connect a USB during the install as usual, and the printer is named MP600. The printer works fine and all functions available even after rebooting.
I then used the wizard to add a printer to connect the D-Link Print Server for the MP600 and this is designated as MP600(Copy 1) on my HP laptop, it installs handshakes and no defects. All is normal, until I shutdown, reboot and try to print. I receive a message saying the printer cable is not connected. If I connect the USB cable and change the printer selection to the USB printer “MP600” from “MP600(copy1)” in printer selection there is no problem, I can print ok via USB.

I can only use the printer wirelessly if I delete the wireless printer, and either :-
1. Create a new port name in the D-Link print server for my HP Laptop. I then use the add printer wizard, and the printer will then work until I reboot.
2. Not to creating a new port name and using the existing one by reinstalling via the wizard and selecting the Port name from the list in the alternative wizard options. Again the printer will work until I reboot.

We have a Sony desk top and Tosh Laptop also is using the same D-Link wireless router and print server and they work fine even after reboot. All the settings when right click and properties looking at all the tabs are the same.

Calling D-Link they say that the laptop is not saving the settings and to call HP. However, HP can not offer anything constructive shall we say.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Many thanks
Ian
