I'm having a strange problem with my RAID0 on my old Asus A8-V deluxe/on board Promise controller.

In the past several months, 3 times now the array goes on the blink. When I go into the Promise utility, it shows one of the two channels (2 drives in the array) as 'free' in the display view, and when I go to try to add it back it, it shows it as disconnected/not present.

I of course check all the connections - even changed cables each time this occured. None of that helped. What I ended up doing is deleting the array and then recreating it from scratch - then it works just dandy again (until the next time I lose it somehow).

Anyone have any thoughts on what could cause this? I can do the above trick each time but I'm wondering when the time will be that it doesn't work anymore. Could the controller be on the way out? Something else?
I back up regularly so data loss isn't an issue, but I'm wondering what could be happening or if its 'fixable'.
