So I finnaly get my system built and go to play some oblivion (or any other game >< ) and I get to the menu screen of oblivion (or WoW since its not a graphicly intense) and the computer locks up and the sound starts to stutter/loop. Then if I leave it there long enough the graphics start to go crazy (lines everywhere, letters turning into mush).
I have the latest drivers for the 8800 gt as well as the evga bios flash to make the fan speed better AS well as rivatuner set up to turn the speed up to 50% when the temp goes over 60C.
Any help is much appreciated as I am about to just call EVGA and ask for a trade in on the new 8800 gts because this is becoming a pain in the arse.
Easiest thing to try:
RivaTuner 2.06
manually set low-level fan control only at % you want, takes 10 seconds to change depending on what your doing.
This worked for me
45% normal (surfing the web,etc)
60% 2D
75% 3D
78c highest I saw with stock cooler

Ran oblivion and played for an hour and a half, temp never got over 59C, this is on the highest settings with 80% fan speed from ntune, game crashed to desktop like it does every so often (even old system it happened). Went to restart same problem.
Go to run 3dmark on it, freezes at the loading screen of the first or second test, then it displays this error.

If all else fails:
un-install card and drivers
use drivesweeper to clean-out old drivers
download new driver, save to desktop
re-install the card, let the generic windows driver install
re-boot
dis-connect from the internet
dis-able anti-virus
install driver from desktop
re-boot again
if that doesn't work, RMA it

Downclocked it to 600 core speed and less than 800 memory bus, actually finished 3dmark this time still got the error about the driver, but finished 3d mark with a 17983 rating. More testing to come.

I had some problems with the Nvidia 169.21 winxp whql drivers. My games such as cod4 would lock up on me while playing or would lock up when loading. 169.04 beta did not solve it either. This was at stock settings of 600/900. I set the fan speed to %65 and had a 120mm fan blowing on the card, and still had this problem. I solved the problem by installing the 169.04 DNA drivers found on the guru3d site. It wasn't my psu either cause I just installed a new one, seasonic 500 watt with 30amps on the 12v rail. Also, the card does not go over 60C under load.
Those drivers solved the problem and I was able to overclock to 730/1674/920 (default: 600/1500/900). under rivatuner monitor, it shows the shader as being locked at 1674. If i set it to 1700, the monitor shows 1674. Also, rivituner only displays up to 1500 on the shader.
it seems like drivers are not your problem however, so like others said, just RMA the card. Before you do that, check your psu to make sure it has enough amps to supply to the card.

Ok new drivers dont help the problem, So Looks like im gonna RMA the card, just wondering if I should use the step up program and just get the new 8800 gts instead and maybe avoid the headache of multi rmas.
