PSU Requirement Question

This forum is awash with this sort of question, but since the variety of hardware comboes make for no single answer, I figure it's fair game for any of you techno buffs out there. I've tried the various online PSU calculators, and despite a variety of results I figure I might be OK - apart from the 7600GT.

I'm looking to part-upgrade an old system. It's a modest rig as some of my old stuff gets to stay until I go fully SATA at Easter. I'm hoping that my current generic 400W PSU can deal with the following until then without blowing anything up. What do you reckon?

Athlon Dual Core EE 4400 (or 4800 tops)
Mid-range mobo - Asus MV2, ECS KA3 or something like that.
7600GT or 1650xt vid card (haven't decided which yet)
Seagate 80GB IDE 7200 Hard Drive
Fujitsu 5GB 5400 Hard Drive (From 1997!) - For Backup
CD/DVD Combi Drive IDE
DVD Drive IDE
1GB 6400 DDR2 RAM (perhaps 2GB)
Creative 5.1 Sound Card
USB PCI Card (2 slots)

Ultimately, my Seagate drive will move to backup slot and be replaced by a Seagate 500GB SATA model. What would my ideal PSU requirements be then?

I think you'll be just fine with 400W.

I've run a PD 8xx, 2 HDD's, 2 Opticals, 2GB or RAM, 6 Fans, and a 7900GS card on a 420W PSU. I even had my 8800GTS 640MB on the rig for for about 3 days with no problems at all.

If you're going to upgrade soon - go for a 500-550W unit (750+ for SLI / Crossfire). If you plan on on keeping that for over 6 or 7 months, just keep what you've got.
