I'm looking at this psu for my new rig:
SILVERSTONE DA750 ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V 750W Power Supply 100 - 240 V
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256017

I'm building it with 4 gig fo corsair xms2, an MSI P6N Diamond LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard, and most like two 8800GTS(g9)'s over sli.

I've been reading up on psu's but it's still not completely sinking in. I know the 12v rails are important, but is it better to have a single 12v or a quad? Is this power supply above a good pick for what I'm building?

Not bad but this one is better--- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009

It is a 750watt but actually maxes at 825 watts. Also its rated at 40C not 25C. Much better Power Supply, oh and 5 YEAR warranty not 3!!! Plus no stupid rebate to worry about! This power supply could easily handle dual 8800GTX's with multiple drives so it would easily handle your setup... If you get that setup let me know what you think. I am thinking of going SLI but might wait for the 780i's or 790i...

hmmm. that's interesting. The eficiency on the one you posted is more efficient. The one I have is cheaper since there's the $30 rebate. You think the 83% effiency is worth the $30 bucks?

They measure the seasonic at 25degrees C which isnt really realistic, the PC Power and Cooling is measured at 40degrees C. all three power supplies mentioned here are pretty good. In my opinion the one I am looking to get is better because of the higher standard (40 degrees versus 25) and the 5 year warranty. It says a lot that they are willing to stand behind their product for 2 years longer than anyone else to me... :)

so u think the 750w is overkill? I will have a raptor hd and a second ide hd along with usb periphials and some stealth fans. I want to make sure there is enough juice for things to run correctly.
