Hay,

I was wondering, do you need a board wich supports pci-e 2.0 for cards like 8800gt, hd3870 to let them perform at their best? or does'nt it matter?

P35 boards are great, cheap and good for OC, but they don't support PCI-E 2.0, so should you go insted for x38 boards, because they do support PCI-E 2.0? But they are a hell of a lot more expensive, so what is the best choice? is PCI-E 2.0 neccesarry? and do you need it to run future cars at their best? (hd3870x2, 9800gx2, g100, r700 etc.)

Thanks...

future cards: id say so. but as of right now, the only cards that use 2.0 even close to fully is 8800gt and 8800gts (g92), as far as i know. so honestly, sticking to a p35 board is much smarter FOR NOW... later on, in-- oh, id say about 6 months-- cards will be coming out that use 2.0 fully and perhaps then u can get a mobo with 2.0. otherwise, u wont see a difference.

Currently, cards like the 8800GT and 8800GTS 512MB doesn't use the full bandwidth of the PCIe 2.0. Currently, the old PCIe does just fine. As for the 9800GX2, it may or may not be limited. We shall see soon.

Unless you're considering to future-proof yourself, which I don't recommend, stick with the P35 boards.
