Some reading meterial for everyone if you haven't already read it.

I do believe that integration is inevadable.
Although, I believe game's effects will push the envelope further than the time he speaks about - pushing pollys will become stagnant but the game engine's effects, physics, AI may carry us further (imo). As with soundcards, you could can see high end Creative X-Fi cards being the 'end all' of sound, but can you see a mammoth (if not one, few) GPU being the same in the future?
Your view?

That is a terrible article in my opinion. He makes some decent points about resolution and bit depth, but he barely mentions the things that really matter. GPUs aren't just vehicles that ferry a signal to your monitor. Sure, an HD2400 can spit out a 2560x1600 signal, but can it sure as hell can't run any modern games at anywhere close to that.

I'll give an example here to clarify my point:

Pull out your XBOX (the first one) and plug it in with a composite video cable to a non-HD color TV. Play a few rounds of Halo. Now pull out your 360 with the same TV and composite cable. Fire up Gears of War and tell me which game looks better.
