PC Problem check monitor and PC Cable message

When I turn on my computer, it doesn't boot up and show a message on the monitor that says "Check PC and signal cable" or something like that. I have jiggled and unplugged all of the cables to try to fix the problem but it doesn't help.

This has happened twice before and the propblem usually corrects itself if I leave the computer alone for a few weeks but I always fear that the next time it won't help. I want to know if there is anything I can do to keep it from happening.

The computer is an E-Machines that I got in 2006 but it is in fairly good condition, and has Windows XP as it's operating system.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

  1. Sounds like you have a bad cable connecting your monitor to your computer. Broken pin(s)? Chafed wires inside the cable? Loose connection? Try using another cable.
