hello,

i have 2 computers on the same table. one of them is my major workstation and the other one is an older station used at the moment for internet uses.

the new workstation is working with Nvidia 8800 GTX with dual DVI with 30" Apple Cinema Display, and the older one is working with a CRT F900B 19" LG monitor. (dont remember the card).

now i want to be able to use from time to time both monitors with the new workstation, and part of the time each monitor with his own box.

i was wondering if i can plug them in a certin way so i can easyly switch from a single to dual monitor on my new workstation?

one more question i've got is the monitor res.
if i work with both monitors on the new workstation, can i work with one monitor on 2560x1920 and on the CRT on 1280x1024 ???

anyway i will appriciate any kind of help in this matter,

thank you.

why dont you get a KV switch and plug the CRT to the KVM to be shared by both.

for that matter you can do that with your keyboard and mouse while you are it.

They are pretty cheap.

So what I am suggesting to be clear, is the 30" is always connected as your primary monitor on the new computer, while the crt is shared by the KVM by both the new and old.

And the GTX should allow you to have the 30" at 2560x1600 and the CRT @ 1280x1024.

let me know if it works.

KVM switch allows you to run multiple PC's off a single set of devices. I use one at work all the time, and it helps sooooo much when you have to repair multiple machines and don't want to disconnect/reconnect everything when you switch stations.

Here's an example of one:

I would say the kvm is too much trouble. If you are lucky, the old machine has vga ports and you already have dual dvi on new machine. I would use dual monitor DVI hook ups for the new machine and dual vga for the old one if you are lucky enogh to have both ports on your monitors. There is no problem for most apps with monitors of different resolutions, but that being said, I only tolerated it a few months before I got two the same size. If you are like me, the old machine doesn't get much use anyways. Cheers

If you want to be able to have 2 monitors on 1 machine, then 1 monitor on 2 machines, plug the other machine in using VGA, keep the original plugged in through DVI and select your input as necessary... OR... check out Synergy...

This may be able to help you a bit more, I'll be deploying this on my own setup (3 monitors on 1 computer, 1 monitor on another computer) for easily working on my gaming/file server :)
