I had problems trying to connect my Toshiba Portege after air travel. Nothing I did allowed me to access my LAN.

More by good luck than anything else I found a switch on the right side of the case beside the DVD tray which hard switches wireless networking on and off. The switch must have got accidentally knocked into the wrong position during a search.

Toshiba manages to conceal information about this switch very successfully in its manuals/start guides/assist routines. Why they thought it was necessary in the first place, the Almighty alone knows.

I posted this in case it might save some other poor sucker tearing his/her hair out for hours trying to connect.

Computer servicing guys aren't complaining -- they get lots of work switching the things on for users (or so one claims).

The switch is actually there to save power.
