My current settings are:

q6600 2.40Ghz,1066FSB
4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz
single 8800gt 512mb

I usually play games on consoles *ducks* but would like to know if it is still necessary to OC my settings in order to play games (crysis, COD4.. mainly FPS). It is going to be a family PC (wife will use it for work, school) and my son and I for gaming. I have read FAQs and topics about OC and it seems over my head. Would I be ok to just OC the cpu from 2.4 to 3.0 and leave everything as is?

I appreciate any help you can provide. Thanks in advance.

i honestly don't think you need to OC a Q6600 if you're not familiar with it. i have a Q6600 in another computer...and its blazing fast at 2.4ghz. before i had my Q9450, i was gaming with COD4 and Crysis with my Q6600 at stock (its at 3.0ghz now), using a 3870x2 and i had everything on max settings, it was 99% flawless with exceptions of really intense levels in crysis. COD4 never saw lag in FPS at all.

if you are going to OC, read the guide by graysky...very helpful and informative

an OC to 3.0ghz with the Q6600 is definately a benefit tho

good luck :)

almost every Q6600 can hit 3.0ghz with out increasing the voltage and the added heat is minimal so almost everyone with a Q6600 does...

i mean why not? you payed for a 2.4ghz yet you can get an extra 600mhz out of it easily to perform on the same level as the Extreme Quad Cores...

thats being said though i wouldn't do it if you have no idea what your doing due to the fact you can cause serious damage to your machine :X

Appreciate the quick responses. I'm no expert as far as OC is concerned and this would be my first attempt if I were to do so. Back to more researching! Thanks again.
