Hi there people :hello: , which is the most overclockable: the XFX 8800 GT 512MB Extreme or the XFX 8800 GT 512MB XXX ? :??:

Keep in mind I'm aiming to an average overclocking, nothing extreme  .

Thanks :wahoo:

I've realized the question above might be stupid for some of you, and maybe it is, but I just want to know if the fact that they come overclocked from the factory makes the graphics card less overclockable. So... does it?

From a % standpoint, a Factory OC card will likely OC less because all 8800GT cards will have the same theoretical max.

Each 8800GT, however, will not OC the same.
Some slightly. Some quite well.

If you want the highest clock possible, you might want to just get the one that is already OC'd the most if you can afford to do so since you will know you have a good chip. Otherwise you are taking your chances.

However, I could not pay too much extra for a lightly OC'd card.
I would just do that myself.

My card was $260 for stock clocks of 600/900. I overclocked my card to 730/920. I have not tried to get the core higher, though I think it may go a little higher. if you look at the top clocks from EVGA they are: 700/1000.

The memory was higher, but, nvidia cards have traditionally not benefited a whole lot from memory increases. So, you can spend $60 more to guarantee those clocks, or spend $60 less and overclock
yourself. I personally do not see the benefit in spending that much more when I can get the same performance by overclocking myself.

Well, since I'm buying a heatsink (the Zalman VF900-CU) I don't think overclocking will be a problem.

Thank you people, you made that very clear ;)

XXX version will reach a higher max over clock but it stock over clocked already.

Certain brands let you keep warrenty. EVGA do, there was another brand too cant remember it though.

XFX and EVGA covers OCing in their warranty as well as aftermarket heatsinks. If your into serious overclocking I suggest getting one of these.

Yeh... they do. Sadly, that warranty is only available in North America.
