get the cheapest 3850, since you plan to buy another card leater, i assume it will have a better resale value and is cheaper and better price:performance at the moment

Get the 3850@Bestbuy for 145$. The 8800 will cost you about 215$. If you plan on using 2 video cards, the 3850 is the way to go. Single, still, the 3850 is the way to go.

If BB ever does restock on 3870s, might want to consider one as well. It will outperform both and 2 of them CF'd are amazing.

P.S. BB should have the 3870 for near the same price as you would pay for a 8800 215mb.

NOT TRUE. I just replaced my 3850 with a 8800gt AMP edition made by zotac and the performance difference is staggering. One 8800gt AMP! edition (i got it for $145 on Newegg) has 700/2000 core and memory clocks and gets over 30fps better than on higher detail than my 3850 ever could overclocked or not. Zotac 8800gt is the fastest and one of the cheapest cards- it's not a brand name, but believe me, it's a solid card and delivers the best performance per $ i've ever seen. My OC'd 8800gt (factory done with a special fan) is about equal to an 8800gtx. look it up, Tech Power Up has all the benchies.

ZOTAC 8800GT ($145) and is fastest factory GT on the planet = 8800GTX

i have a spare 3850 lying around and i'm trying to sell it. I don't know if this is against the rules, but if anyone wants it, contact me. I deeply apologize if it is and i'll edit it out at the slightest notion that this breaks a rule.

Benchmark:

Choose 512mb version of 8800gt. 256mb version delivers inconsistant performance and crash on some higher resolutions.
