I started receiving this error this morning, and don't know what to do. The drive is two months old which is one month past NewEgg's warranty period. I think it may have had 2? hard power cycles a few weeks ago but the problem just started this morning. The drive sounds perfect, no noises or anything. Performance is fine as well.
I read somewhere about zeroing may fix it, but only want to do it as an absolute last resort. I'm thinking about calling newegg to discuss this as well, any thoughts?
you'll need to replace the drive. If your newegg insurance is over, contact the maker of the HDD right away. New drives usually come with either 3 or 5yr warranty.
Newegg's 30 day policy is expired but it's listed as being under warranty from WD for 3 years for parts and repair, does that include replacement lol? I can't go more than a day without the laptop, I use it for both classes and work.
unfortunately, I don't believe that HDD makers such as WD offer cross-shipping RMA.
In common speak, this means that you'll most likely won't have your drive for shipping period + the time it takes to fix it (or replace) + the shipping back period. You are looking at 2-4weeks with slow shipping methods, not much faster than 2 weeks even with next day shipping (which costs a pretty penny).
I would suggest making a backup of your important files right away and contacting WD asap to figure out the particularities of the RMA system that they use.
You also might want to look into buying a 2nd drive for 30 days and returning it near the end of the period (depending on the vendor, this might not be possible).
First, backup your important data.
WD should have some hardware specific diagnostic programs on their web site.
Run those first to see what it says.
You could next do a hard format of the drive. This will, of course destroy all data currently recorded on it.
Also, I think I'd rather talk to them and see what they say before doing the hard format, that takes a long time and don't want to go through that to find out it doesn't work. Plus, I don't know if I can trust the drive anymore, even if the format fixes it.

I did an RMA request through their website. It asked for my serial number, shipping details, and credit card number, and a reason for the RMA request. Basically they are going to ship me a new one, then I return the broken one. If I don't return it, I get charged for the cost of a new one.
