Ok total noob question here but I guess thats what this forum is here for. Currently my setup the HDD and DVD & CD-rom drives are connected to both IDE connectors as its a 939 board. When I upgrade all the new mobo's have only 1 IDE connector and 4 SATA. Can I have the HDD connected to the IDE connector and the DVD and CD-ROM connected to the sata or vise versa or do all have to be connected to one or the other?

You'll need an IDE to SATA connector in order to connect your DVD and CD-ROM (if they are also IDE).

Something like this should work:

Or you could spend a few more $$$ and by a new SATA DVD burner.
