Here's what I am upgrading.

EVGA 131-K8-NF44-AX 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego 2.4GHz Socket 939 Processor Model ADA4000BNBOX

Patriot Extreme Performance 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PDC1G3200LLK

Patriot 1GB (2 x 1024MB)184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Desktop Memory Model PEP1G3200LL

I was going to buy the AMD 6400+ because it was cheap but I can't find a Micro ATX mobo that will work for it. The case I have has a 500W PSU in it and is uATX. Here's my budget/parameters: I want to buy from Newegg, Multi-core proc, 3-4 GB RAM, faster overall than what I have, I really want to stay under $300-350 but I'm open to reality. I only play CoX, everything else I do is lightweight. Thanks in advance!

Gigabyte DS3L $95 (Newegg)

Gigabyte DS3L $95 (Newegg)
E4600 $150 (Newegg)
4GB SuperTalent PC6400 $103 (eWiz)

around $350 before shipping.

An Intel platform gives you a couple of years CPU upgradability. There is no future with AMD ...

I assume he wants another μATX board, which the DS3L is not. Further, it is public knowledge that the Nehalem series will introduce a new socket in around a year. Finally, compatibility with processors in the future will probably be severely limited by the maximum FSB and BIOS updates of any current chipset offering.

Penryns will run socket 775, Nehalems will require a new board. The P35 series BIOS will no doubt be updated to run Penryns (if necesasry) as they roll out, especially since the Nehalems are a year away if on schedule.

Thanks for the feedback, yes I'm staying uATX, no I'm not AMD loyal or anything, its just the price I guess. It looks like the AMD path is 350 and the Q6600 would be 450. To be completely honest, I'm not sure I even need a Q6600, but I would buy it if the longevity is better. I REALLY don't want to upgrade again at least until 2009. If it's not to much trouble, I'd love to see an intel choices (CPU, RAM, mobo (uATX)

Going Nvidia chipset(7100), you will not have an upgrade path to the next generation 45nm Penryn chips. The Intel G33 chip set allows a drop in upgrade for this. A version without onboard video would have the P35 chipset.
